Welcome
to The Kenton Bar Bunker website.
There
are dozens of underground bunkers dotted around the UK from
the tip of northern Scotland to South Cornwall, many dating
from World War 2. A few are still in use while some have been
rediscovered and documented but a few have been forgotten
about, keeping their secrets locked underground forever.
All bunkers can tell a story; and this is a story of a little
known bunker in the North East of England which started out
as home to No 13 Group Fighter Command, playing a pivotal
role in the Battle of Britain before making the transformation
into RAF Blakelaw and playing its part in the Cold War.
Initially
the results of my research into the Kenton Bunker were to
be published in book form only; this means that some of the
pages within this website are quite text heavy. I could have
omitted certain sections and trimmed down paragraphs, however
I felt that this would not have given a full overview and
complete history of the Kenton Bar Bunker.
I hope you enjoy this site.
